George Chacko from CDD
The Community Development Department (CDD) nominates George Chacko for LAMAAA’s Accountant Appreciation Award. George is recognized for working over and above his normal workload, his willingness to help, his resourcefulness, his flexibility and his initiative. George is a Senior Accountant II who works in CDD’s Financial Management Division (FMD)-Cost Accounting Section. His main responsibilities include approving Cost Allocation Plans for CDD’s sub recipients, writing scripts using Focus program and training CDD staff on how to use these scripts, preparing position costing reports, and setting up work order numbers. He also acts as FMD’s liaison to the Controller’s Project office and is FMD’s training coordinator. For the past three years, CDD-FMD has incurred many vacancies in key positions. One example is in CDD-FMD’s Loan Unit, which has a vacant Management Analyst II position since October 2006. The Loan Unit is responsible for servicing a $100 million loan portfolio and ensuring timely payment to the Federal Government’s Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) for CDD’s Section 108 Loans payable of $47 million. Because of George’s initiative and willingness to help, he took over some of the key tasks of the Loan Unit. With minimum supervision and training, he has effectively kept the Loan Unit afloat. He has maintained FMD’s good customer service by providing crucial information regarding CDD’s loan portfolio to our borrowers and CDD staff. Accordingly, he showed his resourcefulness because of the research he did to provide this information. He is flexible in that completes his regular work assignments while working on Loan Unit issues. He makes certain that payments to HUD are timely and accurate. He maintains a positive attitude towards his work despite the extra responsibilities. George Chacko has shown to provide valuable work to the Community Development Department. He deserves to be recognized for his effort.
